About This Organization

digital-real-logoEstablished in 2012, the US Healthful Food Council (dba Eat REAL®) is dedicated to transforming America’s food system and fighting diet-related disease by realigning the food industry’s incentives with consumers’ health interests. Eat REAL works towards its mission through the REAL Certified® holistic nutrition and sustainability certification program. REAL Certified foodservice operators must satisfy prerequisites and earn sufficient points in the REAL Certified audit, which covers a range of topics from food preparation, to sourcing, to production. After completing the audit, establishments are scored as either Green, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Certified, asa measure of their commitment to nutrition and sustainability best practice factors such as their focus on plant-based foods, high animal welfare standards, and use of Organic, non-GMO, or other third-party certified products. As of today, Eat REAL has certified nearly 500 restaurants, corporate cafes and college dining services nationwide.
