About This Organization

941240_606498596050805_134421162_nIn 2017, Transition Sarasota has refocused its efforts on the local food system and education through our documentary series. We have also solidified our online presence with regular Facebook and website updates. One of Transition Sarasota’s flagship programs, the Suncoast Gleaning Project, has been growing yearly since 2010. Over 247,588 total pounds of organic produce has been donated to benefit the food insecure in our community, while also spreading awareness about local food as a promising new solution to hunger and host of other health-related diseases. The seventh season of the Suncoast Gleaning Project, proved to be the biggest and best one yet. The 2016-2017 growing season resulted in 54,066 pounds of produce being donated to All Faiths Food Bank. These efforts were supported by more than 200 different volunteers, who contributed approximately 1,710 hours of their time. This project is generously supported by the Junior League of Sarasota. We have also been busy planning our seventh annual Eat Local Week, a 10-day celebration of food and local farms that will take place from October 20-29, 2017.
