About This Organization

The Oakland Institute, based in Oakland, CA, is an independent policy think tank bringing fresh ideas and bold action to the most pressing social, economic, and environmental issues of our time. They are most known for their in-depth investigations into land grabbing and land rights as well as elevating agroecological solutions from around the world. The Institute is a founding member of Our Land Our Business – a trans-continental campaign made up of over 280 farmer, peasant, and non-profit organizations that challenges the World Bank’s Doing Business and Enabling the Business of Agriculture rankings. Through meticulous research and creative advocacy and communications strategies, the Institute’s work has changed policy and forced the cancellation of millions of hectares of land-grab deals worldwide.
