About This Organization

Midlands Local Food CollaborativeThe Midlands Local Food Collaborative (MLFC) is a group of organizations dedicated to a robust local food system in the Midlands of SC. MLFC members include federal, state, and local government agencies; non-profit organizations; academic institutions; and private consultants. Together, this team provides education, technical, and financial assistance and community advocacy to promote sustainable agriculture, land stewardship, and equitable food access. In fall 2016, the MLFC launched a Land Access Initiative whose goal is to coordinate stakeholders to identify and address barriers to farmland access in SC. A farmland access workshop is being planned for fall, 2017. In April 2017, the MLFC hosted the second annual SC Farmer Resource Rodeo in Columbia, SC to help farmers and resource providers navigate the complex array of technical, financial, and educational resources available in our state. The event was attended by more than 100 people, with participation from some two dozen statewide resource providers. The MLFC’s vision for a truly robust local food system will continue to guide its efforts to seek partnerships and leverage the resources of its network for the benefit of the region.
