About This Organization

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution by decision of the 1974 World Food Conference. IFAD provides low-interest loans and grants to developing countries to finance innovative agricultural and rural development programmes that promote sustainable food systems and natural resource management. IFAD also supports institutions and organizations to strengthen their capacity and outreach. By investing in rural people, IFAD aims to empower them to reduce poverty, increase food security, improve nutrition and strengthen resilience.
