About This Organization

10603473_10152650903100731_7896157131222902249_nThe Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day, including children, seniors and working families. Through more than 600 nonprofit partners, we help more than 755,000 people get healthy food every year. Our goal is that, by 2025, all hungry people across metro Atlanta and North Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. Join us at ACFB.org. At the Food Bank, we understand the power food can have on the health of individuals, families and communities so we started the Nutrition and Wellness program in 2013.The goal of the nutrition program is to 1) end hunger by educating and empowering people in need with healthy food and the skills to prepare healthy meals, and 2) increase awareness and control of chronic diseases in the communities we serve. Our Nutrition and Wellness team is made up of two licensed and Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) as well as nutrition interns and students who understand how the body processes food and how to reduce risk for diet-related diseases through healthy eating. We find and develop recipes that utilize healthy ingredients distributed by the Food Bank and work with our nonprofit partner agencies to develop learning opportunities for clients in the community and at the Food Bank’s Learning Kitchen. We also work with local healthcare organizations to help providers understand the connection between food insecurity and health, and to empower them to connect their patients to healthy food resources available in their community.
