About This Organization

fb_imgThe Sustainable Food Trust is playing a leading role in accelerating a shift to more sustainable food systems. Key areas of work include developing the discipline of true cost accounting (TCA) in food and farming. Following on from events held in Kentucky in the US and London and Edinburgh in the UK, they organised a major conference in San Francisco in April 2016 which brought together a wide range of expert speakers and influential leaders. They will be publishing a report on TCA in 2017. Another strand of work involves exploring principles of Harmony, as inspired by the Prince of Wales’ book, Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World, and developing an understanding of how they manifest in food and farming. The SFT also works to encourage mixed farming systems and sees sustainable grazing livestock as a key element of sustainable farming. They continue to work in an integrated and collaborative way with organisations such as TEEB for Agriculture and Food, providing thought leadership on the true cost of food, along with other issues such as soil health and the role of sustainably managed livestock in future food systems.
