About This Organization

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program helps consumers and businesses choose seafood that’s fished or farmed in ways that protect sea life and habitats, now and for future generations. They raise public awareness about sustainable seafood issues through their consumer guides, website, mobile app and outreach efforts. Since 1999, they’ve distributed more than 57 million consumer guides and their smartphone app has been downloaded more than 1.8 million times. They also encourage restaurants, distributors, and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources. They have more than 340 partners across North America, including two of the largest food service companies in the U.S.

ABOUT THE GUIDE

The James Beard Foundation, Food Tank, and Valrhona, along with a prestigious advisory group of food system experts, developed the “Good Food Org Guide.”

This definitive Guide highlights nonprofit organizations that are doing exemplary work in the United States in the areas of food and agriculture, nutrition and health, hunger and obesity, and food justice.

Only nonprofit, scholarly, and municipal initiatives have been selected in order to spotlight efforts that are focused on community building and engagement, advocacy, and service.
