About This Organization

12246719_880869672008563_162752888440545532_nThe San Diego Food System Alliance is a multi-sector coalition with a mission to develop and maintain an equitable, healthy, and sustainable food system for the benefit of all people in San Diego County. The Alliance adds immediate value to organizations working within the food system through connecting, coordinating, and catalyzing actions that move us towards our shared vision. Our Working Groups include Healthy Food Access, Urban Agriculture, Sustainable Local Seafood System, Food Recovery, and Reducing Barriers to Farming. The Alliance Working Groups all have annual goals they are making progress towards. Several of the Alliance organizational and Working Group initiative highlights include: -Save The Food San Diego – a county-wide food waste awareness partnership that leverages the national “Save The Food” public service campaign, a partnership with NRDC and the Ad Council. -Catalyzing Carbon Farming – analyzing the potential for carbon farming in San Diego County and local financial mechanisms for incentivizing farmers -Advocating for Land Use for Urban Ag – local implementation of AB551 in 3 cities and working with public entities for land access for urban ag -Promoting RMP Usage in Healthy Meal Outlets – promoting the use of the federal Restaurant Meals Program in selected food outlets (healthy, affordable, accessible, and culturally appropriate) -Launching FishTales – placing graphic assets with fishermen’s photos in selected retail and restaurants that source local fish to connect consumers to the sources of seafood -Catalyzing Land-Linking in San Diego County – supporting the expansion of program such as FarmLink in San Diego County -Supporting Community Composting – working with our local governments to crate friendly regulatory environments for revenue-generating community composting operations Our community education events for 2017 includes Future of Tuna Harbor: Focus on Win-Win-Win (4/13), Farm Bill Forum San Diego (7/26), and 3rd Annual Food Waste Solution Summit (9/26)
