About This Organization

10341695_1422856221312087_3928532485566909519_nIn 3 years, The Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance (RMSA) has emerged as one of the nation’s premiere regional seed conservation organizations. RMSA was formed to assure an abundant and diverse supply of seeds for the Mountain West region through education, grassroots networking, and community-based models of seed stewardship. Key RMSA programs include: Seed School, a pioneering, educational course with nearly 1,000 graduates; Seed Stewards, a network of 167 dedicated community seed leaders; Rocky Mountain Heritage Grain Trials Project, a grassroots, 60 member project to revive local grain economies; the Rocky Mountain Regional Seed Vault, a safety backup program for the region’s seeds; and the first ever Mountain West Seed Summit, held last April in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The James Beard Foundation, Food Tank, and Valrhona, along with a prestigious advisory group of food system experts, developed the “Good Food Org Guide.”

This definitive Guide highlights nonprofit organizations that are doing exemplary work in the United States in the areas of food and agriculture, nutrition and health, hunger and obesity, and food justice.

Only nonprofit, scholarly, and municipal initiatives have been selected in order to spotlight efforts that are focused on community building and engagement, advocacy, and service.
