About This Organization

Real Food for Kids’ mission is to collaborate with school communities to elevate the quality and character of school food, develop and deliver programs that advance literacy in nutrition and health, and engage students, parents, and schools in building a culture of health that spreads to their homes and communities. Real Food for Kids recently launched a diverse ommunity collaborative called The Lunch Room Collective: elevating conversations and solutions around school food. The purpose of The Lunch Room Collective is to raise the profile of and conversation around school meals as a catalyst for change in public health and to activate programs and policies that advance a common agenda leading to systematic change in the way students are fed. Today’s students are tomorrow’s workforce. They are the future of sustainable, strong communities and the predictor of a strong economy. Our schools are a critical component to their success. School meals play a critical role in not only feeding students well, but influencing their health decisions outside school walls. Changing school food, within its bureaucratic structure, requires changing the school food culture. This can only happen through the creative cooperation of diverse partners who are willing to propel support for innovative programs to the top of decision-makers’ agendas and drive sustainable culture shift in how we feed our school children. The Lunch Room Collective will be that innovative, collaborative platform. It will design and implement community-based diverse solutions to drive sustainable improvement in school food programs.
