About This Organization

Oldways is a nonprofit food and nutrition organization, with a mission to improve public health through education about cultural food traditions, ingredients, and lifestyles. Oldways carries out a wide range of initiatives, all of which reflect its commitment to nutrition, culture and sustainability. Oldways is known for developing and introducing the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid and the Whole Grain Stamp. Its programs are positive and practical and include: Oldways Finding Common Ground; Whole Grains Council (WGC); Mediterranean Foods Alliance; African Heritage & Health/A Taste of African Heritage (plus a similar Latin American heritage program under development); Vegetarian Network; Supermarket Dietitian Symposium; Cheese Coalition; and Culinarias. In 2017, the WGC introduced the 50%+ Whole Grain Stamp to help consumers recognize products where at least half the grain is whole grain. Oldways A Taste of African Heritage community cooking class series continues to grow: since 2012, nearly 3,500 students have participated in 250 classes nationwide.
