About This Organization

GRuB grows healthy food, people & community by partnering with youth, people with limited incomes, transitioning veterans & other marginalized communities to create empowering community food solutions. We are best known for our innovative GRuB School program, which we offer in partnership with local school districts, to create farm-based experiential alternative high school programs that engage youth with the food system as a means to develop leadership & team skills, as well as getting more youth-grown good food into cafeterias and cultivating future good food leaders. Our Victory Garden Project brings together the best of our good food access programming, building gardens for individuals & families with limited incomes, with our successful community building model of engaging veterans & other volunteers as garden builders & farm stewards. The Victory Garden Project grows community by connecting people with diverse life experiences and creating opportunities for partners in every capacity to have a sense of purpose & belonging. Over the next few months & years, we plan to launch the Rx Garden project, partnering with community members and their health professionals to leverage gardens as a meaningful health intervention for folks with, or at risk of, chronic disease; we’ll continue to develop the wild & food medicine curriculum, Tend, Gather & Grow, to support youth, and tribal youth in particular, in cultivating their connection with the abundance of nature, and we’ll continue to take a leadership role in the South Sound Food System Network and upcoming community food summit.
