About This Organization

1908223_740431799323197_1023001525_nThe Foodshed Alliance works to strengthen our local food system, helping family farms thrive, increasing access to healthy food for those in need, reducing food waste and protecting our rural environment. Our initiatives include: Growing Farmers — to generate more local-food farming in our state We are working on ways to improve land access for farmers in New Jersey, provide opportunity and training for beginning farmers and help farmers institute conservation measures to protect our waterways. Local Food Distribution — to increase opportunities for farmers and access to local food We work to get local food served in every kitchen in New Jersey, from the school cafeteria to the corporate dining hall, from the neighborhood diner to the finest eatery, from the family who shops at the local market to those who visit food pantries. Healthy Food for All — to provide access to local food for all, regardless of means Through our LocalShare gleaning program, we are reducing food waste on farms while feeding those in need. In 2016, we delivered 46,000 lbs. of farm-fresh food to local food pantries. Farmers’ Markets — to build community and make local food accessible year-round Through our subsidiary, the Foodshed Alliance Farmers Access Network, we operate two farmers markets (Blairstown and Morris County) making sure consumers have access to fresh, local food year-round and farmers have outlets for their goods. These markets build community as people gather in a community marketplace.
