About This Organization

Food For Free is a Cambridge-based non-profit that improves access to healthy food within the community by: rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste, strengthening the community food system, and creating new distribution channels to reach undeserved populations. Founded in 1981, Food For Free is one of the oldest food rescue organizations in the U.S. Food Rescue and Distribution serves more than 100 food programs in 11 Greater Boston cities reaching 30,000 people a year. Food For Free’s direct service programs, including the Cambridge Weekend Backpack program, school markets, Home Delivery, and Family Meals, bring healthy food to seniors, children, people with disabilities, and others at high risk for hunger.
