About This Organization

Feeding Laramie Valley is a community-based nonprofit program that is is committed to working towards creating a sustainable and local food system and promoting food security throughout the Rocky Mountain Region, with particular emphasis given to the community we call home, Albany County, Wyoming. Since our founding in 2009, we continue to address our mission through development of new community gardens, increased food production efforts and rescuing and donating high-quality locally grown produce that is shared with individuals and families, with special focus on elders, children and people living with chronic illness. Feeding Laramie Valley also works to chronicle the local food system through written and audio narrative, photography and videography. With a broader goal of developing a just and secure food system, Feeding Laramie Valley offers a free kid’s summer lunch program, year-round educational workshops and events, and provides garden mentoring to people living with at least two chronic health conditions. The organization also started the Higher Ground Fair, a regional Rocky Mountain event that features and promotes ingredients, concepts and materials that utilize compassionate practices and originate from the six Rocky Mountain states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and the Native First Nations that also call this region home. The annual event is part old-fashioned country fair, part music festival, part food fest, part conference – all celebrating community tradition and innovation in agriculture and ranching; local food systems; music and dance; folk arts and crafts; animals and ranching; the environment, shelter and energy; gardening and farming; regional and cultural foods; health and wellness; social action – all anchored by a kids’ adventure zone and youth agricultural exhibits and presentations. As we look towards the future, Feeding Laramie Valley will be expanding production operations through community gardens and yard shares as well as building a greenhouse with the ability to produce fresh produce for the community year-round. We will continue to build partnerships with the University of Wyoming and community organizations, introduce and support more people to gardening, and grow the Higher Ground Fair to become a sustainable source of revenue for the nonprofit work of Feeding Laramie Valley.
