Equity Trust is a small, national non-profit organization that helps communities to gain ownership interests in land and other local resources, and to build economic relationships that balance the needs of individuals with the needs of their community, the earth, and future generations. Their Farms for Farmers program helps land trusts and other community-based organizations to preserve the affordability of farms to benefit farmers who need access to farmland as well as community members who want a secure source of locally grown food and a way to preserve their environmental heritage. Equity Trust provides technical assistance for projects aimed at creating affordable farms; training in the use of shared-equity property ownership and specialized agricultural easements; free model ground lease and easement documents; and loans from a revolving loan fund financed by social investors.
