About This Organization

11067445_10153241531329887_2561528836000014457_nThe Environmental Working Group (EWG) specializes in research and advocacy issues related to corporate accountability, toxic chemicals, farming, food, energy and water policies in the United States. Since 1993, EWG has used data-driven research to educate and engage consumers, companies and policymakers. EWG is well-known for publishing consumer guides, such as the Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in ProduceTM, which details the Dirty DozenTM and the Clean FifteenTM lists for conventional produce with the most and fewest pesticide residues, respectively.

In 2017, EWG teamed up with Food Policy Action Education Fund and launched the Plate of the Union campaign to raise the voices of Americans who think our food and farming policies should work for consumers and the environment, not big corporate interests. EWG will dedicate much of its time in 2018 to pressing Congress to write a new farm bill that provides more funding for organic agriculture and conservation programs that protect drinking water sources. The group will push back against any attempt to cut funding to vital federal nutrition assistance programs, like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
