About This Organization

ECO-city-farms-logo-mediumECO City Farms, a nonprofit urban teaching and learning farm, grows great food, farms and farmers in the Port Towns of Prince George’s County, Maryland. We educate and train the next generation of DC metro-area urban farmers and eaters. Since 2010, ECO demonstrates the viability of growing food where fresh food is scarce. We promote employment in producing, distributing and marketing food in DC and at its edges. We teach youth and adults about healthy food, and introduce, prepare and connect them to career options. ECO has trained hundreds in nutrition education and hired a cadre of community nutrition educators; with Prince George’s Community College, conferred more than 200 certificates in commercial urban agriculture, trained hundreds of master composters, provided six-weeks of summer employment and training to over 100 youth, and created a seasonal market for area food entrepreneurs to supplement their incomes. This coming year, ECO will additional sell its produce to a number of local area eateries, and help to develop a major healthy food destination in our County.
