Eat Greater Des Moines identifies, develops, and connects resources with the broader community, supporting the entire food lifecycle in central Iowa. Our work focuses on supporting community gardens, local producers, and expanding food rescue efforts. During 2017 we expanded the Double Up Food Bucks program for SNAP clients at local farmers markets. We have also been working to provide professional, permanent signage for regional school, community, and faith-based gardens and orchards. Signs were designed and are starting to show up in neighborhood gardens! These signs are free to the gardens. Our goal is to increase awareness of the great work these volunteer gardens are doing to increase access to good food within their communities. We are excited to continue making it easier for people to connect with good food.
