Compost Pedallers is a bike-powered composting service that has been operating in Austin, TX since 2012. As a for-profit social enterprise, their mission is to harness the power of previously wasted organic resources in order to support local food production, build community, and bridge the gap between people and their food. With nearly 700 homes and businesses participating in their simple and enjoyable organics recycling program, all resources collected by their fleet of cargo bikes are donated directly to local farms and gardens to be composted and used to grow more local food. To encourage participation, members of the program earn rewards from local businesses in exchange for composting. So far, the Compost Pedallers have diverted over one million pounds of organics away from landfills and invested them in local soils, all without burning a single drop of fossil fuels.
