About This Organization

943043_391913537590220_737193501_nDC Greens uses the levers of food education, food access, and food policy to advance food justice in the nation’s capital; they run programs like the Produce Prescription program, which allows doctors to prescribe free produce to residents with diet-related chronic illnesses; the Trellis Program, which provides DC educators with free professional development workshops on food education; DC Produce Plus, a city-funded program that allows low-income residents to receive weekly vouchers for produce from farmers’ markets; and an Advocates Training program to resource community members with a lived experience of food insecurity to advocate for issues that matter to them in the food system. DC Greens was the lead organizer for the Grocery Walk, a community-based demonstration to elevate the issue of healthy food access in D.C.

The James Beard Foundation, Food Tank, and Valrhona, along with a prestigious advisory group of food system experts, developed the “Good Food Org Guide.”

This definitive Guide highlights nonprofit organizations that are doing exemplary work in the United States in the areas of food and agriculture, nutrition and health, hunger and obesity, and food justice.

Only nonprofit, scholarly, and municipal initiatives have been selected in order to spotlight efforts that are focused on community building and engagement, advocacy, and service.
