The Berkeley Food Institute (BFI) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to transform food systems to expand access to healthy, affordable food and promote sustainable and equitable food production. We empower new leaders with the capacity to cultivate diverse, just, resilient, and healthy food systems. We work with faculty, students, policy makers, community members, and other collaborators to promote equitable access to good food, advance fair and healthy food systems jobs, and accelerate the adoption of agroecology. We pursue these goals by funding interdisciplinary research, providing educational opportunities, using Berkeley expertise to inform policy, and partnering with other leaders in the field. BFI serves as the hub of food work on campus, with over 140 affiliated faculty members across 7 schools working on a wide range of food systems challenges.
