About This Organization

logoALBA is tapping the immigrant farmworker community to grow the next generation of organic farmers. Founded in 2001, ALBA’s mission is to create economic opportunity for aspiring, limited-resource farmers through land-based organic agriculture education. On our 100-acre farm ALBA serves mostly immigrant farmworkers looking for alternatives to low-paid seasonal field work. In the first year bi-lingual course they gain exposure to all aspects of managing an organic farm business including multiple guest speakers from the local industry. Graduates of the course may launch their farm business at ALBA, where they gain subsidized access to land, equipment and field assistance over four years allowing the time and supervision for their farms to take root and grow. ALBA Organics, our food hub, gives farmers access to fast-growing markets for organic food, selling over $20 million in start-up farm produce in local markets since 2010. Over 100 participants have left the program to farm independently and hundreds more have landed better work due to skills gained at ALBA. Come pay a visit to the farm and see for yourself!
